Yesterday a BioBlitz in Camley Street Natural Park, London, yielded over 170 species with more still to be identified. The event, organised by the Society of Biology and the London Wildlife Trust, brought together members of the public and experts in species identification.

A BioBlitz is an intense period of species recording in a defined area, and can also provide the chance for non-experts to learn more about the species around them. Society of Biology members and members of the public provided valuable assistance with the collection of samples.

The majority of the records were plants and invertebrates, but the ponds and mature trees ensured a range of birds were reported. The day ended with sightings of pipistrelle bats.

All records will be submitted to the Biological Records Centre.
