The Royal Society of Biology is offering a chance to gain free access to our Gopher Science Lab online training course, thanks to generous funding from The Worshipful Company of Horners.
The funding will allow for 33 state-funded primary schools in London to access the online training course. Schools are invited to apply via email for the funding, which will allow teachers to access the course and download the online resources for two years.
As well as written guidance and video demonstrations that explain how to carry out Gopher Science Lab activities, the course also includes information about the science behind the activities, suggested extension activities, and downloadable lesson resources.
Throughout the online course, teachers learn how to deliver a range of hands on activities – including exploring common acids and alkalis, making slime from cornflour and batteries from fruit.
Teachers are also encouraged to help their pupils to learn to teach these activities to other pupils, to help them develop their skills in communication and increase their self-confidence.
The practical activities use simple household items and familiar analogies and are designed to facilitate the learning of primary-aged children and ease their transition from primary to secondary education.
Teachers at state-funded primary schools in London can apply for free access to the online course for themselves and their school, please email Raghav Selvam by 31st July 2018 with the following information:
- Your name
- Your role / position within the school
- Your school’s name
- Your school’s postcode
- 100 words explaining why your school would like access to the course
