The Royal Society of Biology has launched a brand new online training portal, offering courses to suit all interests and competencies, from enthusiastic biologists to professionals working in the biosciences.

Our first online training course, which is available on myLearning from today, has been developed for teachers and educators of science and is designed to give clear guidance on how to carry out our Gopher Science Lab activities. On completion of the course, teachers can gain access to 10 brand new Gopher Science Lab activities.

The course is specifically aimed at non-specialist primary teachers seeking to develop their confidence and ability to teach science.  However, it would also suit individuals wishing to offer science outreach in primary schools and secondary science teachers looking for simple hands-on activities, to engage and inspire their younger learners.

Thanks to generous support from the Welsh Government’s National Science Academy, teachers in Wales can also access this course for free.

As the professional body for biologists, we recognise that a diverse range of knowledge, skills and attributes are required by those working in the biosciences in numerous and varied professions. 

Since the launch of our training programme in 2014, we have run more than 50 training courses to support trainees across the breadth of our membership. 

The addition of online training to our portfolio will enable us to expand the reach of our training programme, in line with our three year plan, to provide continuing professional development (CPD) support on a local and international level.

Gopher Science Lab is the first of many more online training courses to be developed by the Society.  Look out for our other online training courses coming soon.
