RSB chief executive receives honorary doctorate for contributions to science policy and industry

Dr Mark Downs CBiol CSci FRSB has been awarded an honorary science doctorate from Brunel University London, recognising his work as chief executive of the Society.
Dr Downs received his doctorate at a graduation ceremony hosted by the University, and was presented his award by pro-chancellor John Cridland CBE and vice-chancellor Professor Andrew Jones.
Professor Mariann Rand-Weaver, vice provost for education commended Dr Downs for his commitment to sharing the importance of the biosciences.
“What runs through Mark’s illustrious career is an ability to work across government, industry, academia and the public, to not just highlight the importance of science to our lives, but directly influence science policy.”
Brunel University London was one of the first universities to receive Accreditation from the RSB for its bioscience courses, and continues to work closely with the RSB – it now has ten courses that have been recognised as facilitating an exceptional level of learning and skill growth.
